Some basic properties of Solids are as follows--

*In SOLIDS all particles like molecule atom ion all are closely packed with strong intermolecular forces or cohesive forces.

*They show only one type of molecular motion named Vibrational motion due to which they only move in their fixed position and not leave their position.

*They have definite shape and volume.

*They have rigidity.

*They are highly dense.

*They have less compressibility due to small space between particles of solid.

*They have very law vapour pressure but some particles present at the surface has high kinetic energy so they can enter into the vapour state.

*Solids have definite melting point but this is not always correct (i will discuss it in new section).
